If you buy any sexually explicit fiction at Amazon, there have been some recent changes to the site’s search function which may affect your shopping habits.
Many erotica and erotic romance titles are now “adult filtered” and will not appear if you search for them from the Amazon main page. So how can you find erotica at Amazon now? See below:
One way is to type your search term slowly in the search bar, so that the “in Kindle Store” or “in Books” options show up, then select one of those. Another way is to first click on the downward pointing arrow in “All” and choose “Kindle Store” or “Books” to begin with, and then type your search term.
Choosing these options will allow all relevant titles to show up. On the other hand, if you leave the Search option on “All,” you could be missing out on a ton of products!
These tips are for finding erotica at the Amazon website. If you’re shopping on your Kindle device, you’ll automatically be looking in the Kindle Store, so your searches shouldn’t be affected.
Other things to keep in mind:
Fellow erotica author Alice Xavier notes: the search algorithm still treats filtered books a bit differently and will put them beneath non-filtered content in the Relevance search, so you might have to do a bit more scrolling, or switch to New and Popular sorting. Better yet, just search within the Erotica category.
And Cerys du Lys points out that if you like to browse for books by using the “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought” feature, you will only be able to see filtered books if the book you’re currently looking at is filtered. This means that many books which could be of interest to you may be hidden from the “Also Bought” gallery.
